Galvanised Steel
Old Favourite
Galvanised Steel is a hot-dipped zinc coated steel, giving it extensive anti-corrosive durability. Commonly seen in corrugated roofing, rainwater systems and other applications such as wall cladding substrates.
Heritage aesthetic
Galvanised steel may also be used in heritage restoration where the use of new products will not replicate the original aesthetic or where new products don’t do the job because of negative metal interactions. For example, Zincalume® and Colorbond® are incompatible with copper piping, galvanised gutters and lead flashings.
Aesthetic
Spangled metallic surface gives a distinct look.
Complementary
May fit very well with traditional heritage buildings, but also has possibilities as a contemporary design product.
Durability
Strong zinc coating giving it anti-corrosive durability. Steep pitched roofs tend to last longer as debris washed off more readily. The thicker the zinc coating the longer the life of the sheeting.
Maintenance
Keep roofs clean and free of debris as this will accelerate loss of zinc coating in that area.
Versatility
Can be used on most roofing and cladding profiles.
Workability
Consideration should be given to the use of compatible fastenings and rainwater systems.
Metal type
Ferrous
