Titanium Zinc

Architectural beauty of zinc

Titanium Zinc adds an architectural edge to your designs, contrasting beautifully with natural materials such as stone and wood. Available in a wide range of colours and sheens, going beyond traditional silver-grey into a spectrum of red, blue, green and charcoal.

Parisian beauty – zinc rooftops

Zinc roofing and cladding has had a long architectural history and if it’s possible for a city to be in love with zinc, that city is Paris, France. In the mid-19th century, Napaleon III commissioned Baron Hausmann to rebuild Paris and his choice of roofing material was zinc. Paris still has more than 80% zinc rooftops and it is currently seeking world heritage status for its zinc roofs from UNESCO.

qualities

Aesthetic
Natural zinc is a bright silvery metallic colour when first installed and develops a matt grey patina after 2-3 years depending on climate.  Zinc is also available in greys, black, browns, colours and textured surfaces.

Complementary
Complements stone, brick, glass, wood.

Durability
Zinc is a ‘living’ material, over time developing a natural protective layer or patina that blocks moisture and chemicals from penetrating to the zinc beneath it.  This protective layer (zinc hydroxide) is created by a chemical reaction between rain water, zinc and carbon dioxide or pollution.  It is self-repairing and will reform over time making zinc naturally resistant to corrosion.  Life span can exceed 80 years (depending on the construction/ location/ climate).  Zinc’s longevity makes it highly affordable over the life of a building.

Maintenance
No maintenance required.

Versatility
Can be used on all roofing and cladding profiles, and in internal and exterior design items e.g. facades, bench tops and garage doors.

Workability
Easily fabricated and highly malleable. Processing the material does not harm the colour coating or the aesthetic. Zinc can be perforated, cut and scratched without rusting. Lightweight.

Metal type
Non-ferrous.

Sustainability
Long lifespan.  Zinc requires less energy to produce than other construction metals.

Recyclable
Zinc is 90-100% recyclable and is reused without loss of quality or properties.
